Follow Me to the Land of Dreams

While alone I imagined a friend, who would whist me away.

One who would come and beckon me to join her,

“Follow me into the land of dreams today.”

I watched as she glided forward, and the portal opened with mists enshrouding the ground.

Her gown billowed about her lightly as she glanced back to see if I would follow on.

I pondered if she were fae or angel adorned in such splendorous finery.

Her wings were whispers of the finest down and her hair that of a newborn fawn.

I decided it couldn’t hurt to follow and see what she would show me.

I fell asleep, she took my hand, and on wings we flew.

Such sights and sounds I can’t describe but when I woke, I knew

I had been to the land of dreams and life would begin anew.

Where is my land of dreams?

The more I study painting the more I find myself being drawn to create images that stem from the realm of fantasy and myth. Growing up I escaped into the pages of books to cope with the numerous issues that surrounded my life.

Within the leaves of stories, I could be anyone, go anywhere, and do anything I imagined. Even magical like this fairy painting.

The more I read the more my imagination grew!

When you grow up in a minster’s home it seems that there is a constant threat of an emergency. One would be resolved then another phone call would come in. My Dad was forever going to hospitals, nursing homes, holding funerals, etc.

Compound that with my mother being diagnosed with Bipolar disorder and of no fault of her own having mental breakdowns. Coupled with us being the only ones caring for my bed-ridden grandfather.

It is no wonder I found my escape in books.

I always loved fantasy stories where there was a female lead who won against unspeakable odds. They empowered me in their own way to keep pressing ahead in my own life.

Into the Land of Unicorns by Bruce Coleville was perhaps my favorite series. In fact, I still have this series and have reread it several times.

I have never found another book series that I have loved more than this one. I’m still on the search and continue to read all the time, but my heart will always hold a special place for the land of Luster.

Maybe that is where this magical lady was taking me to. Perhaps my land of dreams is within that realm. Who knows? Only time will tell, do you want to join me on my journey as I paint and discover more about my imagination?

Until next time!
