Southern Appalachian Women (SAW) is a newly established nonprofit organization committed to researching, preserving, and sharing the rich histories and stories of women in the region.
Our mission is driven by the belief in the transformative power of creativity to enlighten and educate. Through a range of disciplines such as visual and textile arts, literature, folklore, music, culture, oral histories, and regional studies, we strive to showcase and educate. By exploring the lives and contributions of Southern Appalachian women, we aim to bring their experiences, challenges, triumphs, and legacies to light.
At SAW, we are dedicated to unearthing untold narratives, amplifying their voices, and fostering a deeper understanding of the diverse roles women have played in shaping the heritage of the region. Through our innovative approach, we uncover hidden stories, bridge connections between the past and present, and inspire a greater appreciation for the women who have woven the fabric of Southern Appalachia. We invite you to embark on this inspiring journey of discovery, empowerment, and celebration. Together, let us honor the remarkable women of the Southern Appalachian region and ensure that their stories are cherished for generations to come.
