Occasionally, I will get a request for wedding photography coverage at the last minute, and if I am available, I am happy to oblige. Stephanie and Josh contacted my friend Katrina at Destination Elopements on a Sunday and asked if she could perform their ceremony. They had decided to come to Asheville for a few days while Josh was home from work and wanted to get married at Lake Junaluska. After speaking with Katrina, they decided they wanted to get married at Lake Junaluska. I live near this lake, so I was contacted and asked if I could take their elopement that Saturday.
Of course, I said yes! I wasn’t doing anything that day anyway, and as you know I am a sucker for love stories!
Since it was a weekend day, my husband JJ was able to come with me and help. I really enjoy having him working weddings with me when he can. Eventually, our goal is to have him with me full time. My business is growing, and we look forward to the day when he can do that.
But anyway, enough about that let’s get back to our couple!
An Audience at the Lambuth Inn
After we met the couple, along with Katrina, Stephanie (our bride) needed to change into her gown. I don’t know what conference or event was happening at the lake that day but there were people everywhere!
Katrina had already talked to the staff at the Lambuth and asked if our bride could get dressed there, and they said yes.
On a side note, if you have not seen the Lambuth Inn since their renovations last year, it is gorgeous!
JJ hung out with Josh (the groom) outside while Katrina and I went inside to assist Stephanie.
Poor Stephanie didn’t know she was going to end up with an audience, lol.
As she was getting changed some elderly ladies happened to come into the ladies restroom. It did not take them long to figure out someone was changing into a wedding gown.
Within moments five of them were standing near the sinks chatting up a storm with us and waiting for the bride to step out and show them her gown.
Katrina kept them entertained while I helped Stephanie finish getting ready. People always get excited when they find out someone is getting married whether they know them or not. It was sweet though, and our bride didn’t mind their “oohing” and “awwing” over her.
Ceremony at Inspiration Point
I suggested we look at Inspiration Point which is directly outside the Inn for the service. Typically, Katrina holds the ceremonies at the Cross at Inspiration Point, but she was not aware of the hidden gem up top.
Tucked behind the hedges is where the Lambuth holds their weddings and it has a spectacular view!
Since it was not in use, Stephanie decided she liked that spot the best, and we went to get the groom. I had Stephanie step around the edge of the building so they could have a traditional first look.
Once again little ladies spotted her through the window and were waving and taking pictures of her on their cell phones. She had no idea she was going to be such a star on her wedding day!
As the sun dipped low in the sky, they said their vows to one another. And as always Destination Elopements with Katrina delivered a touching ceremony of love.

Night Photos at the Dam
After the ceremony was concluded JJ and I did a short series of portraits at the point, then Stephanie wanted to move down to the waterfall at the Dam. By the time we got to the bottom, it was getting dark. Thankfully, I use off-camera flash, and with JJ’s help, we captured some fantastic images!
I love how deep blue the sky turns immediately after sunset! And this time I was surprised because I did not even consider the water mist in the air, but in the camera, it made for such stunning imagery!
It was a fun evening, and we really enjoyed meeting Stephanie and Josh.

Their Love Story
Now on to their story! I love to ask my couples about how they fell in love so I will close with that today. Here is what Stephanie had to say about their journey!
How did you two meet?
“We met by talking through MySpace in 2008 and then at a local bar called Jack Rabbits. Our official first date was Speedstreet in Charlotte that same year.”
When did you know that he was “the one?”
“I knew he was the one the day after Speedstreet when he came up from behind and hugged me. It just felt so right!”
Tell me about your proposal
“Well, we actually had two. The first one was a couple of days before Christmas in 2016. He hid the ring in the Christmas tree, covered my eyes and asked me to marry him. It was really sweet and long overdue, and I loved it! However, I didn’t have my glasses on so I couldn’t see the ring in the tree.
The second time came after we had broken up for a short time. As we were pulling out of our apartment, he handed me his phone to “look at a restaurant menu.” He then gave me the ring box and asked if I would like to put my engagement ring back on. “
Tell me what you love most about him.
“I love how he takes care of me and loves me unconditionally. I guess that is two things, isn’t it?”
What do you enjoy doing together the most?
“We love just being at home eating, drinking, and watching our favorite tv shows together.”
Are there any current wedding trends you like the most?
“Is eloping a trend?” (I will answer this one, yes, it is, and I am all for it!)
Do you two have a “song” that speaks to you?
“Tangled Up in You” by Aaron Lewis
Is there anything else you would like to add about your love story?
“Yes, it is long, twisty, and not always pretty but it is our story, and we wouldn’t have it any other way!”
I agree every love story is different and they are each uniquely yours! I wish Stephanie and Josh a lifetime of happiness and adventure together! It was a delight to capture their love story for them.
If you are looking to elope or get married in the mountains contact us, we would love to be a part of your special day and share in your celebration!
Until the next story, live with joy!
